A van became engulfed in flames Friday morning on I-70, near mile marker 318, after the driver struck a deer, but no injuries were reported. The accident shut down the interstate for about 50 minutes each way.

Kansas Highway Patrol officials said Donald Reed, 61, was driving a Ford Econoline van westbound on I-70 at approximately 7:30 a.m. when he crashed after striking a deer.

Reed, the only occupant of the van, was able to exit the vehicle before it caught on fire.

For about an hour, traffic was diverted to K-99.
