Van drives into hydrant, tree

Police are looking for the driver of a 1997 Dodge Caravan that drove into a tree and fire hydrant in the 400 block of Poyntz Avenue early Thursday morning.

Officer Matthew Droge said the driver was reportedly travelling eastbound on Poyntz when the driver crossed the center lane and continued onto the sidewalk, striking a tree and fire hydrant in front of Barry’s Drug Center, 414 Poyntz Ave.

The driver the fled the scene, Droge said, leaving behind the green mini-van.

The incident occurred at about 5:35 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to call the Riley County Police Department at.
