Daniel Harkin and Brett Seaton of Manhattan won championships in both singles and doubles in the Kansas District Tennis Championships this past weekend in Wichita.
Harkin won the title in boys’ 12-and-under singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the finals over Soumali Vesali of Wichita. He had made it to the finals with 6-0, 6-0 wins over Charlie Foss and Coleman Shanks.
Seaton beat Rodney Steven of Wichita 7-6, 7-6 to win the boys’ 14-and-under singles championship. Seaton had beaten Wonjoon Cho in the semis, 6-3, 6-1, after receiving a first-round bye.
Seaton and Harkin combined to win the boys’ 14-and-under doubles title as well. Scores were not immediately available.
Manhattan’s Jillian Harkin finished second in a round-robin format in girls’ 12-and-under singles. She defeated Maya Chon 6-2, 6-2, but lost to Brittany Steven in a third-set super tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-6 and 10-7.
