OGDEN — Riley County police arrested the driver of a car that left the scene of an accident Tuesday afternoon that resulted in two motorcycle operators suffering substantial injuries.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m., when Johnny Cossey, 38, of Ogden, was driving north on Walnut Street across Riley Avenue in a 2004 Lincoln LS. The car collided with two motorcycles that were traveling west on Riley Avenue.

The motorcyclists - James Garrett III, 48, and Steven Cannon Jr., 29, both of Ogden - were transported to hospitals, a Riley County Police Department press release stated.

A Life Star helicopter transported Garrett to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. Riley County EMS transported Cannon to Mercy Regional Health Center.

Details of the men’s injuries were unavailable Wednesday morning.

However, Garrett’s injuries were possibly life threatening, Sgt. Brad Ingalls said in a phone interview.

Neither Garrett’s nor Cannon’s conditions were known as of press time Wednesday.

Police scanner reports indicated neither operator was wearing a helmet.

Officers located Cossey at about 7 p.m. He was arrested for leaving the scene of an injury accident.

As of press time, Cossey was confined at the Riley County Jail on a $7,000 bond.

Police are still investigating the accident.
