Two drivers were killed in an early morning crash Monday on U.S. 77 in Geary County when their vehicles hit head-on.
Lt. Greg Harkrader, Kansas Highway Patrol, said a van carrying eight people and a pick-up truck driving in opposite directions collided on the two-lane highway near Milford about 16 miles north of I-70 at approximately 7:30 a.m.
The highway was closed to traffic following the crash.
The names of the drivers, who both died, had not been released as of mid-day. Neither were the names of passengers immediately available. Harkrader said two passengers in the van were life-flighted to Stormont Vail in Topeka, two were transported to Junction City and two were transported to Mercy Regional Health Center. One passenger was uninjured.
He said there were no passengers in the pick-up truck and no witnesses to the collision, so authorities had no immediate theory as to what caused the wreck.
