Two burglaries at area stores

By Katherine Wartell

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and St. Marys Police Department are investigating two reported burglaries: one at Gambino’s Pizza, 507 E. Bertrand, and another at The Whistle Stop, 411 Bertrand, St. Marys. On the early morning hours of June 21, an unknown person or persons broke windows in these businesses to gain entry and remove items including cash, coins, and cigarettes. Evidence at one scene indicated the suspect cut her/himself while climbing through a broken window. Evidence found at both scenes indicates the same person is likely responsible for both burglaries. The loss and damage of these burglaries will exceed $1,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353. Callers may remain anonymous.
