Twila R. Whitley

Twila R. Whitley, 96, of Manhattan, died Tuesday morning at the Meadowlark Hills Sloan House. She was born on June 23, 1915, in Manchester, the elder daughter of Ewan and Emma (Dieffenbaugh) Robertson.  Twila and her younger sister, Lila (Foster), were raised on a farm near Manchester, just north of Abilene.  She attended a country grade school, then graduated from Abliene High School in 1932. On February 16, 1935 she was united in marriage to Henry T. Whitley of Solomon.  To this union a son, Winston Keith Whitley, was born.  The family lived in several Kansas communities before settling in Colby in 1943. In the early years, Twila assisted her husband in the operation and maintenance of telephone systems across the Midwest.  Twila loved caring for family, visiting with their Colby community friends, playing the piano and ballroom dancing.  Also important activities that she enjoyed were needlework and all kinds of puzzles.
