Trial set in rice seed theft case

By The Mercury

A jury trial has been set for two scientists from China accused of taking rice seed samples from a Junction City research facility and passing them to a delegation visiting from China.

The trial is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 14, 2015, and is expected to take 30 days, according to court documents.

A scheduling conference was held Tuesday before a federal judge in Kansas City, Kan., for Weiqiang Zhang, who had been living in Manhattan, and Wengui Yan.

A federal grand jury indicted the pair in December on charges of conspiracy to steal trade secrets.
