Following two rounds of stroke play, current Kansas State men’s golfers Connor Knabe and Matt Green, along with former Wildcat Alex Carney, advanced to match play at the 104th Kansas Amateur, held at Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.
Knabe, a sophomore for the 2014-15 season, tied for 12th during stroke play with a 36-hole score of 3-over par 142 (70-73). Green, who will also be a sophomore this season, tied for 50th at 9-over par 149. Knabe was seeded 13th for match play, while Green is the 52nd seed, and the two will square off in the round of 64 on Thursday.
Carney, who was a senior during the 2013-14 campaign, tied for eighth during stroke play at 2-over par 142 (68-74). The eighth seed for match play, Carney will face 57th seed Grant Grego.
A pair of redshirt sophomores for the upcoming season, Conner Schrock and Hank Simpson, did not qualify for match play as they carded a 19-over par 159 and 21-over par 161, respectively.
Match play for the 104th Kansas Amateur will continue through Sunday, July 27. Each match is 18 holes in length except for Sunday’s final match, which will be 36 holes.
