Three finalists chosen for school board seat

By Bryan Richardson

The USD 383 school board selected three finalists Wednesday in the process of filling the seat vacated by former board president Doug Messer.

The three finalists are Patricia Hudgins, human resource specialist for K-State Student Publications; Marcia Rozell, tourism sales manager for the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau; and, Beth Tatarko, a USD 383 school board member from 2005 to 2009.

Each board member selected a top three among the nine candidates. Hudgins and Tatarko appeared on five of the six ballots and Rozell appeared on four.

The board will conduct 20-minute interviews with each of the three finalists. A date hasn’t been officially set for interviews due to Rozell’s scheduled business trip on the originally planned May 9 date. However, the board mentioned 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 as a possible date. If that occurs, the board would make a decision during the regular meeting later that day.
