Threat closes school

School officials evacuated Anthony Middle School today after receiving a bomb threat.

Someone found a note containing the threat in one of the school bathrooms, said Michele Jones, communications coordinator for USD 383.

The students were evacuated to St. Thomas More Catholic Church while officers from the Riley County Police Department, along with district employees, checked the building, she said.

At 11:30, officials decided to dismiss school for the day. Buses and parents picked the students up at the church.

Jones said nothing suspicious had been found, and she expected classes to go on as usual tomorrow.

“Everyone was safe, and everyone knew what to do because we practiced our evacuation drills,” she said.
