Thoughts on the salaries of university administrators

To the Editor:
Sometimes an alternative view helps put existing institutional structures in a new light. The mission of a public university is not to create a bureaucracy of high-paid administrators. Citizens expect that the university will be a place where most employees are directly engaged in research and teaching, and, particularly in the case of land-grant universities, applied research and outreach.
