Thornton a repeat winner at Kansas City Marathon



Manhattan resident Julie Thornton finished 34th overall at the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon, finishing as the top woman in Saturday’s race.

Thornton ran a time of 3:01.41, the first woman to come across the finish line on foot. Cherie Madsen of Union, Neb., actually finished second overall, but was in the women’s wheelchair division.

It was the second straight year that Thornton won the women’s division of the marathon.
