The state actually supported sentencing Brewer to house arrest

By Letters to the Editor

To The Editor:
I represent Daniel Brewer and want to correct what appeared in Sunday’s newspaper as well as in a previously published article regarding Daniel Brewer.

The Sunday Mercury indicated that the State would not oppose Mr. Brewer’s request. That is inaccurate and in error. Rather, It was an agreement between he and the State that the parties would jointly recommend suspending the sentence.  Although, there was little mention of the specifics from the State, I will send to you excerpts from the plea agreement.

Christine Ladner on behalf of the State and the Office of the Attorney General Derek Schmidt actually recommended (not that they did not oppose) suspending the sentence. I’ve attached the specifics of the State’s recommendation and the signature page of the agreement.

For some reason the reporting on the agreement keeps reporting that the State did not oppose our request for suspending sentence.  The misinformation continues to perpetuate and I want the reports to be accurate.
