To the Editor:
I went to Congressman Tim Huelskamp’s website last week in order to send an email expressing my displeasure with his position to close down the government in an effort to defund the Affordable Care Act.
This law was legally enacted, deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court and withstood over 40 attempts by the Repub-lican-led House of Repre-sentatives to repeal it. Re-gardless of an individual’s view of this law, it is the law, and to hold U.S. government funding hostage is irresponsible, if not unconstitutional.
I was shocked to find that Congressman Huelskamp be-lieves his constituents are supportive of his actions in Congress. His homepage states, “In last week’s telephone town hall poll, 89 percent of the respondents approved of Tim Huelskamp’s work as their representative in Congress. Last week’s poll also found that 74 percent of Big First respondents support shutting down the government for a few days to defund ObamaCare.”
I know I was not included in these poll results, and they do not reflect my views. I urge any and all citizens of the 1st District to contact Rep. Huelskamp to let him know what you think of the government shutdown.
