Suspect to have mental evaluation

By Bethany Knipp

A suspect charged in a Dara’s Fast Lane robbery that occurred in November 2013 will be transported to Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility for a trial competency evaluation.

Travis Bowman, 23, appeared via webcam from the Riley County Jail in the district court hearing Tuesday with Judge William Malcolm presiding.

He was arrested Nov. 26 on aggravated robbery and felony theft charges.

Malcolm told Bowman’s attorney Phylemon Yau that he was waiting on an order for Bowman to be evaluated by Pawnee Mental Health Services, but Yau informed the judge that the person qualified to do the evaluation would be unavailable until May.

Malcolm then signed an order for Bowman to be transported to Larned for the evaluation.

The court will hold a status hearing on at 1 p.m. on March 4 to make sure Bowman has been transported and evaluated.
