Support Wamego’s efforts to erect a veterans memorial

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

Gary McCloud, commander of American Legion Post 172, will talk Sunday about the veterans memorial to be constructed in the Wamego City Park. The occasion will be a community dinner at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church to honor all veterans and those now serving in the military.  American Legion Post 172, American Legion Riders 172 and VFW Post 1258 are leading the project to build a memorial for Wamego-area veterans from WWI to the present.

Veterans, servicemen and women and their families and all in the community are invited to the 10:30 a.m. service and the dinner and program after the service at 11:45. A free-will offering will be taken for those who want to contribute to the memorial fundraising. The Pott-awatomie County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Luth-erans will provide brisket for the dinner and double the contributions given for the veterans memorial.

Also, the American Legion Riders will honor veterans with flags flying over I-70 at exit 324 beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church is 1/2 mile north of the intersection of K-99 and U.S. 24.  This is an opportunity for all people of ages to gather together and honor our veterans.
