Support lawmakers working on a hunting, fishing fee compromise

By Letters to the Editor

I appreciate the Manhattan Mercury‚Äôs editorial on the difficult issue of raising hunting and fishing license fees on seniors.  It is a complex issue, and I think that this is the third time it has come up in the Kansas Legislature in the last 25 years. The wildlife and fisheries programs of the state of Kansas are totally funded by license fees and federal excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. These federal dollars are returned to the states based a formula based on land area and current hunting and fishing license sales in the state.
