Riley County commissioners approved petitions to repave the Lakewood, Driftwood and High Meadows subdivisions later this year at Thursday’s meeting.
Assistant county counselor Craig Cox presented the three petitions to the board of county commissioners for their approval.
“All three petitions are basically the same,” Cox said. “Each subdivision circulated the petitions and met the requirement of getting at least 51 percent of the subdivision to sign off on it.”
The commissioners had to agree with the repaving of the subdivisions, which set up a public hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m., on Sept. 19, 2011, in the commission chambers.
After the public hearing, the project could be put out to bid and construction could begin as soon as a company was selected. However, concerns were raised Thursday about whether it would be warm enough to repave the roads when the construction would be going on.
“We are going to try to get out to bid out as quickly as possible,” said assistant county engineer Gary Rosewicz. “And if it happens that we don’t feel we can do it properly, we will put it off until spring time.”
Also on Thursday, commissioners scheduled a county redistricting meeting for 6 p.m., on Sept. 12 in the commission chambers.
