Students also benefit from project to help others

By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

For several years I have been delighted to be the recipient of a grant allowing my students and me to provide some holiday cheer for the children at the Manhattan Area Transitional Shelter.

This year, as in the past, our grant funds were supplemented by discounts from Walgreen and Target. That has allowed us to provide Christmas or winter holiday gifts and Easter or springtime baskets to the children, with small tokens for their parents.

We thank the merchants who have been so generous and the local foundation that provides our grant money from the bottom of our hearts. This project is something I hold dear for both the effect on the children and parents for whom the seasons are hopefully a bit brighter, and for the good feelings engendered among my students and myself.

It is things like this that make the Little Apple and Manhattan High School great places to be!
