St. John-Hudson 71, Plainville 58

By The Mercury

After winning a Class 1A-Division I championship last season, St. John-Hudson finished off a second championship and undefeated season — this time in 2A — behind a 27-point effort from guard Zuriel Reyes.

The 5-foot-10 senior finished 6 of 9 from long range and led the team in scoring on a day when 6-foot-8 post Dean Wade was bogged down with foul trouble, though he finished with 19 points.

Plainville (23-3) was led by Logan Frederking’s 19 points, with Hadley Gillum adding 14 points and Kolt Newell chipping in 11.

St. John (26-0) took a three-point lead to halftime and had a five-point advantage entering the fourth quarter before finishing off the win in the final period.
