Sproles injured in Saints’ victory

It’s been a tough season for Darren Sproles in regard to injuries, but the New Orleans Saints running back came up big in Sunday’s 23-20 win over San Francisco.

Sproles rushed for 16 yards and had four catches for 19 yards on the day, but after leaving with an injury, returned to the game to help the Saints complete the fourth-quarter comeback.

With less than two minutes to play, Sproles called for a fair catch on a punt, but was hit hard by Kassim Osgood. The 15-yard fair-catch interference penalty helped set up the Saints final drive and game-winning field goal.

Sproles missed a punt with his injury and his replacement, Lance Moore, muffed the punt, which may have accelerated Sproles’ return to the field.

In Philadelphia’s 24-16 win over the Washington Redskins, running back Bryce Brown had 2 yards on four carries, but finished with 28 yards receiving and two catches.

Linebacker Zac Diles had two solo tackles in the Tennessee Titans’ 30-27 loss to Indianapolis.

The Minnesota Vikings had quarterback Josh Freeman on their inactive list Sunday, opting instead to use Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel in a 41-20 loss to Seattle.

Green Bay receiver Jordy Nelson had eight catches for 117 yards in a losing effort to the New York Giants, while teammate Chris Harper was on the inactive list.

Defensive back Terence Newman had a pair of solo tackles and two passes defended in Cincinnati’s 41-20 win over Cleveland.

Daniel Thomas led the Miami Dolphins in rushing, finishing with 57 rushing yards and a 1-yard touchdown run in the team’s 20-16 win over the San Diego Chargers. Linebacker Reggie Walker had two solo tackles, including a sack, defensively for the Chargers.

Justin Tuggle had three tackles in the Houston Texans’ 28-23 loss to Oakland.
