Sports Clips taking donations for VFW

Sport Clips Haircuts at 705 N Third Place in Manhattan is taking donations for its annual fundraiser, “Help A Hero” campaign.

Since 2007, the program has supported the VFW’s “Free Call Days,” making more than 2 million calls home possible for deployed and hospitalized U.S. service members.

This year, the program will expand its focus to offer scholarships to veterans. Each scholarship will provide up to $5,000 to veterans who are pursuing a post-secondary education.

“As a small business owner, I’m proud I can join this national effort to help our nation’s heroes,” said Terry DeWeese, Sport Clips owner. “Sport Clips, our clients, and friends across the country have donated almost $2 million over the past six years to support our service members during deployment, so I’m glad we can continue to support them as they return home and transition into civilian careers.”

Donations are being collected in-store through Veterans Day. On Monday, Sport Clips will offer free haircuts to all active-duty military and veterans. Also, the Manhattan location will donate one dollar from every paid haircut service to the VFW-administered program.
