Soto preliminary hearing set

Magistrate Judge William Malcolm has set Domingo Soto’s preliminary hearing for 1 p.m. on Jan. 20, when it will be decided whether his case is to be bound over for trial.

Soto is charged with aiding and abetting first degree murder, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, cultivation of marijuana with intent to distribute, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested Soto on Dec. 8 alleging that Soto provided Michael Layne, 19, with the firearm that Layne allegedly used to kill Steve Freel, 31. He remains confined to the Riley County Jail on $500,000 bond.
