Solider death ruled a suicide

JUNCTION CITY – Preliminary autopsy results indicate a Fort Riley soldier found dead in his apartment earlier this week died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said Wednesday afternoon.

The Junction City Police Department on Monday responded to 1731 North Park Drive Apt. 5, the home of 26-year-old Shawn Michael Thomas, for a call that a person had been shot.

Inside, officers and members of the Junction City Fire Department and EMS discovered Thomas dead.

A preliminary autopsy conducted Tuesday afternoon identified the gunshot wound as the cause of Thomas’ death, according to police.

Police don’t suspect foul play.

Thomas was assigned to E Company of 3rd Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment.
