Shots reportedly were exchanged Friday morning on the south side of Junction City between a Geary County Sheriff’s deputy and a man he had pulled over for a traffic violation.

The man was later located and apprehended at an area hotel, where he was shot in the leg during a struggle.

Officials said the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. and said the man fled the area after the shots had been exchanged, abandoning his vehicle at Lockstone Court.

The man believed to be the driver was located by Junction City police officers a short time later at Knights Inn, 1024 S. Washington St.

Officials said a foot chase ensued and the man was shot in the leg by a detective after he attempted to grab the officer’s weapon.

The man was being treated as of Friday afternoon at Geary Community Hospital.

The KBI has been called to investigate the incident. No names are being released at this time.
