Sexual assault suspect found dead

A man police were searching for as a suspect in a sexual assault case was found dead over the weekend, according to a press release from the Riley County Police Department.
The suspect, Alexander Shelton, 26, of northeast Kansas, was wanted for a rape that was reported to police last week in Manhattan. His body was found in a jurisdiction outside of Riley County. Police wouldn’t give the exact location.
The rape occurred early on the morning of Aug. 11 in the vicinity of the K-State campus, prompting authorities to warn the public about walking alone at night.
Shelton is not believed to be responsible for other crimes reported in the area, according to the press release.
As this investigation is ongoing, police said they don’t plan to release of any further information at this time.
