Second phone fraud case in a week

By The Mercury

Terry Joseph Howard Hersh, 24, reported an unknown caller called him asking for financial information.

Officer Matt Droge, said Hersh said the caller said a recent credit card transaction did not go through and needed the information again to process the charge. Hersh gave the caller the information, but later questioned the validity of the call.  Droge said after an investigation by Hersh, he found out the call was not legitimate and reported the loss to the police.

Total loss was $302. Droge said while the loss was not great, it is the second phone related fraud case reported this week, and cautioned residents to not give out any financial information over the phone, especially if they think it might be a scam.
