Seaman upsets top-seed Heights

Topeka Seaman scored two runs in the first inning and then held on the rest of the way to beat top-seeded Wichita Heights 2-1 on Thursday in the first round of the Class 5A state baseball tournament at Tointon Family Stadium.

The Vikings stranded 15 Heights baserunners after scoring its two runs on an RBI double from Reid Fehr and a Falcons’ error.

Wichita Heights scored its lone run on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the fourth inning.

Ryan Zeferjahn took the win for the Vikings and Turner Middendorf got the save. Middendorf allowed one runner in the seventh on a hit by pitch, but ended the game with a fly out and a strikeout.

Keylan Killgore took the loss for Wichita Heights.
