Schulz says he hasn’t considered Va. Tech job

TOPEKA — K-State President Kirk Schulz’s alma mater is looking for a new president, but Schulz said Thursday he hasn’t thought about applying for the job.

Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger announced his retirement Tuesday.

Schulz, a Virginia native, received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1986 and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 1991.

His wife, Noel, received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1988 and 1990.

Schulz said he received an email on Steger’s retirement as an alumnus of the school.

“Frankly, my wife and I haven’t given it any thought at this particular point,” he said. “We’re happy at K-State. That’s where our focus is.”
