School to end a day early

By The Mercury

USD 383 schools will close for the school year at the end of the day Wednesday, May 23 rather than noon Thursday, May 24.

The school board met Monday morning to approve that change to the schedule. Board members said the earlier closing date would provide extra time to prepare for summer construction. This is the last summer of work for the $97.5 million bond issue construction and renovation projects.

The board originally attended to close only five schools early — Bluemont Elementary, Marlatt Elementary, Theodore Roosevelt Elementary, and Manhattan High School East and West campuses. However, board members determined that closing all of the schools early would simplify the process.

Last year, USD 383 secondary schools released students two days earlier and elementary schools released students one day earlier because of construction.
