School briefly evacuated over bomb threat

By The Mercury

A bomb threat caused an evacuation of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School this morning.

A student told a staff member that another student told him that he had placed a pipe bomb inside the school. School officials called the Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County Police Department.

Students and staff walked to Bluemont Elementary around 9 a.m. “They just started school at 8:40 a.m.,” said Michele Jones, district communications coordinator. “It all happened pretty quickly.”

Fire and police officials gave the OK for students and staff to re-enter the school after determining there were no explosives in the building. Buses took everybody back to Woodrow Wilson around 10:20 a.m.
