School board approves 2014 budget

By The Mercury

On a split vote, the USD 383 Board of Education Wednesday gave preliminary approval to a 2014 budget that includes a 2.095 increase in the property tax levy.
Board members Curt Herrman, Dave Colburn, Pat Hudgins and Marcia Rozell comprised the majority. Board members Leah Fliter, Aaron Estabrook and Darell Eddy opposed it, expressing concerns that it would rely too heavily on the use of reserve funds.
The levy will increase to 52.464 mills. During the current budget year, it was 50.396 mills.
