Sales tax receipts up in August

The city had $894,136 in sales tax receipts in August, according to the August sales tax report from finance director Bernie Hayen.

The report reflects sales from the previous month.

This is higher than the August 2012 and 2013 numbers of $880,233 and $848,704, respectively.

The overall sales tax receipts for the year to date total about $7.02 million, which is 0.6 percent lower than 2012’s total of $7.065 million and 1.29 percent higher than 2013’s total of $6.93 million.

Hayen refers to 2012 as the banner year when sales tax revenue exceeded $10.5 million.

The city’s sales tax revenue is $27,429 higher than August’s budget and $22,555 higher than the year-to-date budget.
