Sales tax receipts called ‘good news’

By The Mercury

Bernie Hayen, Manhattan city treasurer, called February’s sales tax collection “nothing but good news.”

The city received a distribution from the state of $1,848,773 for the month – basically reflecting sales in December when adjusted for lag time. That represents a bump of roughly 5.5 percent from the same month in 2013, when the city received $1,751,724.

Year-to-date sales tax collections also were up, with $3,613,325 forwarded from the state for two months so far in 2014, as opposed to $3,493,013 a year ago.
