Marcia Rozell, a tourism sales manager for the Manhattan Convention and Visitors Bureau, filed as a candidate for the USD 383 school board Monday.
The USD 383 school board race now has two candidates for three seats with Mitch Beims filing in December. Rozell has run in the last two opportunities to become a board member: the 2011 board election and the board’s process of filling a vacant seat in 2012.
Rozell said the kids and teachers drive her.
“I just feel it’s important to have passionate people on the board,” she said.
She touted her experience working on PTO and site council, budget and building committees. She also was a paraeducator at Marlatt Elementary for six years.
“I have some first-hand knowledge on what goes on in our schools on a daily basis,” Rozell said.
The filing deadline is noon Tuesday. There are three board seats open, those of Walt Pesaresi, Pete Paukstelis and Beth Tatarko. Tatarko and Paukstelis have both said they do not plan to stand for re-election. Pesaresi has not made his intentions known yet.
