Junior rower Abby Weaver added yet another accolade to a very successful 2013-14 campaign, as she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team this past month.
A fixture on the Wildcats’ 2nd Varsity 8, Weaver is the first Wildcat rower to earn the honor since Heather Hoffman in 2009.
Majoring in mechanical engineering, Weaver finished the 2013-14 academic year with a perfect 4.00 grade-point-average. She was the lone rower selected out of her district and was one of six athletes in her district to have a GPA of 4.00 or higher.
Awarded to athletes by Capital One/CoSIDA for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, Weaver’s latest accolade is one of many for the junior this season. She was one of three Wildcats to earn Conference USA All-Academic honors this season and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 member.
The Manhattan native is also a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award recipient and has received the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal in all three seasons she has competed for the Wildcats.
On the water, Weaver was a part of one of the most successful K-State women’s rowing seasons in program history. Racing on the 2V8, she earned a silver medal at the Big 12 Championship and bronze at the Conference USA Championship to end the season. The 2V8 also recorded one of three victories over then-No. 19 Oklahoma at the Longhorn Invitational and was named Big 12 Boat of the Week in March.
