Rovelto adds three more to recruiting class

Kansas State head track and field Coach Cliff Rovelto added three more signees to his 2012 recruiting class this week.

After signing six student-athletes on the announced the signing of three more female athletes to the incoming class for this fall all from the state of Kansas.

Shannon Parr, Alyssa Kelly and Haley Pitko will join the class and become Wildcats for the 2012-13 season.

“We are excited to add these young ladies to our program,” Rovelto said. “We believe they will contribute to our team immediately. Kansas kids have always been the core of our program and attracting the best in our state is always a priority.”

Parr, a high jumper from Rossville, won the Kansas Class 3A state title as a freshman and sophomore and was third place last season. She also won the regional championship as a sophomore and junior and was the runner-up at the 2010 AAU Junior Olympics. Parr has a personal best high jump of 5-07.00 and also has run the 100-meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds.

Kelly, from Blue Valley West, was the No. 1 long jumper and triple jumper in Kansas in 2011 and is currently No. 1 for the indoor season. She has a personal best leap of 19-01.75 in the long jump and 40-00.75 in the triple jump and claimed three state titles, winning two in long jump and one in the triple. Kelly has qualified for the Kansas state championship meet six times.

Pitko is a javelin thrower with a long history of athletic success in her family. Last year, Pitko finished fifth at the state championship meet in the javelin for Eureka Junior/Senior High. She also finished seventh as a sophomore and claimed the regional title both years. Pitko also plays volleyball and basketball for the Tornadoes. Her father Mike played basketball at Emporia State, and her mother played volleyball there. Pitko’s great uncle Lynn Dickey is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in K-State history and played 15 seasons in the NFL.
