Rock Creek softball splits with Clay Center

The Rock Creek softball team split with Clay Center on Tuesday, winning the first game 8-3 and losing the second 5-1 on the road.

Behind the pitching of Blair Campbell, Rock Creek put up four runs in the top of the first and two more in the third to go up 6-1. Alexis Wilson had an RBI single in the first, and Shannon Caffrey added a two-run double. Kayla Boltz had a two-run home run in the third.

Boltz finished the game 3 for 4 with three RBIs. The Mustangs had 10 hits.

Campbell threw 70 pitches from the circle and held Clay Center to three runs.

Rock Creek outhit Clay Center 7-6 in the second game, but lost by four runs. The lone run for Rock Creek came on an inside-the-park home run by Wilson in the sixth inning.

Brynn Hammett and Caffrey each pitched in the game, while Hammett took the loss, allowing six hits and striking out four.
