The Rock Creek JV softball squad improved to 5-3 on the season with wins over the St. Marys Bears. Rock Creek won both games via run-rule, 14-2 in the first game and 16-6 in the second.
Jayden Weers and Saige Biedenbender each pitched for the wins. Weers had five strikeouts in Game 1, allowing no earned runs, Biedenbender struck out six batters and gave up four earned runs.
The Mustangs managed 11 hits in the first game, including two doubles and a triple. St Marys pitching offered up six free passes. Veronica Valburg and Dakota Nelson each went 2-3 with doubles. Cassidy Cheever and Olivia Lee each added two hits.
Rock Creek belted out 15 hits, including four doubles and two triples in Game 2. Lee doubled and tripled in the game. Alexis McCormick hit two doubles, while Valburg went 3-5 and Carley Nelson tripled.
On April 17, the Mustangs traveled to Silver Lake, falling in the first game 18-0 in three innings and dropping the second game 13-3.
The first game was uncharacteristic of Rock Creek in that a perfect game was thrown against them and no batter was up twice. On the defensive side of things, Rock Creek committed 12 errors in the shortened game.
Weers pitched for the Mustangs, taking the loss, striking out one and walking one during the game.
In Game 2, the Mustangs committed only three errors. Rock Creek trailed early, 3-0, but tied up the game in the third inning behind four consecutive hits - a single up the middle from Lee, a single to right field from Alexis Engelken, a double to left from Bethany Goehring and a double to right from Nelson.
Lee debuted with the pitching responsibilities, and despite walking a few, kept the eagles off the board for the first few innings, striking out three
In the fourth inning, Silver Lake exploded for 10 runs to blow the game open.
