Rock Creek JV softball splits with Abilene

The junior varsity Rock Creek softball team won the opening game of a doubleheader with Abilene, 6-2, and faltered in the second, falling 12-9. 

Behind the pitching effort of Jayden Weers, who struck out eight, the Mustangs outhit Abilene in Game 1.

Rock Creek managed nine hits from five players — two each from Cassidy Cheever, Weers, Morgan Tiers and Veronica Valburg. Weers had two RBIs, while Cheever, Tiers and Olivia Lee each notched an RBI in the game.

In Game 2, the Mustangs took a late 7-6 lead into the seventh inning before Abilene scored six runs to come from behind and win. Rock Creek was hurt by five errors in the game, but finished with 12 hits.

Weers and Lee each had triples, while Tiers was 2 for 4 with a double. Weers took the loss from the circle, falling to 3-1. She had seven strikeouts.
