The Rock Creek softball team traveled to Southeast of Saline on Friday to compete in what will be the last of the regular season games between SES and the Mustangs.
Rock Creek swept SES 8-1 and 16-6 in the doubleheader, and in the six-year history between the two teams, went a perfect 12-0 — having never lost to SES.
In the opener, offense was nearly obsolete until the sixth. The Mustangs manufactured a run in the top of the third from Caitline’ Christenson drawing a walk, followed by an opposite field triple from Katie Hodges. SES answered that lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
Heading into the top of the sixth, score tied 1-1, the Mustangs scored three runs off of four hits including two triples, one each from Christenson and Jessi Snapp, and singles from Hodges and pinch hitter Alexis Wilson.
The Mustangs would again triple in the top of the seventh to finish off a four-run scoring inning. Ashley McDaris drew a walk, Blair Campbell singled, Christenson was hit by the pitch, and Bailey Elliott tripled, later scoring on a passed ball. Hodges earned the win, striking out eight and allowing only six hits.
In Game 2, the Mustangs collected 17 hits including three triples and two doubles in addition to every batter having a hit for the first time this season.
Kelsey Quinn was 3-for-3 and Wilson 3-for-4 with a triple. Bailey Elliott and Katie Hodges each tripled as well. Christenson went 2-for-2 and Snapp 2-for-4. Lauren Overkamp doubled and Campbell was 2-for-4.
Blair Campbell won the contest from the mound, giving up five hits, striking out three.
The Mustangs will finish out the season with all MEL opponents, beginning on Tuesday when they travel to Riley County to face the Falcons. The Mustangs are currently 9-3 on the season.
