Riley house fire causes $240,000 in damage

A house fire Friday night near Riley caused $240,000 in damage.

Riley County Fire firefighters received the call at 10:18 p.m. Friday from Mike Kalmer, who said his residence at 7867 Powys Ave., about 9 miles west of Riley, was on fire.

Fire responders from Riley arrived first to find flames coming out of the roof, said Pat Collins, emergency management coordinator and Riley County fire chief. Nine apparatus and 26 firefighters from five stations fought the blaze until 5 a.m. Saturday.
