Rezoning passes for new McDonald’s

By The Mercury

City commissioners unanimously approved a request from McDonald’s Tuesday to rezone a tract near the corner of Fourth Street and Bluemont Avenue from an R-2 family residential district to a C-5 highway service commercial district. Eric Cattell, assistant director of planning, said the rezoning fit with the comprehensive plan in slowly converting residential properties along arterial streets, which are streets that have large volumes of traffic, to commercial businesses. He said Bluemont Avenue and Fourth Street both fit the definition of an arterial street.
