A Wamego High School senior is the beneficiary of Robert Reece being named Kansas County Official of the Year for 2012.

BreShawna Briggs was presented a $1,000 check Monday during the regular meeting of the Pottawatomie County Commission.

The award was presented by Reece, county administrator and Randall Allen, executive director of the Kansas Association of Counties.

Reece was named Kansas County Official of the Year during the KAC Annual Conference November 13-14, 2012, at Topeka.

As part of the award, the county administrator received, on behalf of the county, the $1,000 stipend to be presented to a graduating senior in Pott County.

County officials developed criteria for the award and invited graduating seniors from throughout the county to submit applications and letters of reference.

Of the 11 qualified applications submitted, Briggs’ name was drawn at random to receive the award.

Briggs introduced her mother and stepfather, as well Wamego High School Principal Tim Winter and USD 320 Superintendent Denise O’Day, all of whom were in attendance for the presentation.

Briggs said she plans to enter the honors program this fall at the University of Kansas, where she plans to study aeronautical engineering and business administration.
