Riley County officers were investigating a report of shots fired late Tuesday morning in the area of Stonemont and Stone drives near Highland Ridge in Manhattan.

At the time of publication, officers were still investigating a report called in at 10:30 a.m. of shots fired in that area.

Officer Matthew Droge said at the time that it is unknown whether there were injuries or if shots were actually fired. He said a weapon had not been located.

Officers could be heard discussing their search for a person of interest over the police scanner, but at the time of publication, Droge said no suspects had been located.

Droge said he did not believe there was a risk to the public and said EMS responders were staged near the area as a matter of precaution.
