RCPD awards scholarship

By The Mercury

The Riley County Police Department has awarded its second annual RCPD Scholarship Award to Abbie Boyda.

Boyda was selected to receive the $500 scholarship in April after a process conducted throughout prior months.

The scholarship award recognizes “outstanding students who are children of RCPD employees,” according to a press release.

The scholarship is made possible by donations from RCPD employees, the RCPD employee fund and the general public.

To qualify for the RCPD scholarship, applicants must be the dependent of an active, full-time department employee and accepted or currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student.

Boyda is currently attending school in Nebraska, where she’s studying X-ray, CT scan and imaging informatics. She plans to graduate in August 2015.

“I want to wish Abbie the best of luck at school in Nebraska and hope that the contribution our employees have made helps her reach her goals,” RCPD Director Brad Schoen stated in the press release. Boyda is the daughter of RCPD Lt. Steve Boyda and dispatcher Kim Boyda, as well as Brian and Jennifer Keller.
