On April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Riley County Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration are providing a free disposal of expired, unused, unwanted and potentially dangerous prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Dillons Grocery Store in the Westloop Shopping Center. Users of the service will remain anonymous.
The reason behind the initiative is to deter the use of diversion, misuse and abuse of prescription drugs.
Police said medicines that languish in medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to being abused. Getting rid of medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential health and safety issues, according to police.
