Rape trial ends in mistrial

A district judge declared a mistrial Friday afternoon in the rape trial against a K-State assistant professor after jurors could not agree on a verdict.

William Yankey, 29, Manhattan, was on trial for allegedly raping a former friend, but jurors could not come to a unanimous decision Friday afternoon following two full days of testimony.

Jurors deliberated for approximately three-and-a-half hours before notifying District Judge Meryl Wilson that they could not agree.

Yankey is scheduled to appear for a status hearing on June 3 at the Riley County Courthouse so a new trial date can be set.
