By The Mercury

Purple Power Play on Poyntz returns once again to downtown Manhattan Sept. 1-2, beginning both nights at 6.

The event, which is designed to welcome students, alumni and the entire community to Manhattan prior to the first K-State home football game, has become one of the largest regional events in Northeast Kansas.

The festivities will stretch from the Manhattan Town Center Plaza through the 500 block of Poyntz Ave.

Live music, entertainment, food, games and an inflatable carnival will be present both nights.

K-State coaches and players from a variety of sports will make an appearance, as well as appearances from the K-State marching band, cheerleaders, Classy Cats and Willie the Wildcat.

Friday night, a fireworks display will occur overhead Poyntz.
